New sounds for film scenes

  • Anne Dern / Music / Film music

Anne Kathrin Dern (Music, specialised in film music): “My graduation project is a compilation of different film genres. I took various scenes from different films, removed the sound and redid them. I did a lot with modern music technology and samples, but I also did a lot with voice and recorded a choir, to which classical soprano Tineke Roseboom (also from the class of 2012) lent her beautiful voice. My final project was shown at the Focus Filmtheater in Arnhem, with 5.1 surround sound. That was a very good experience for me.”

Filmscoring in LA

“I moved to Los Angeles in America to study ‘Film Scoring’ at the University of California (UCLA). Studying in America is a bit different than studying in the Netherlands or Germany – it’s almost a kind of life style – but the university fees are quite high. Luckily I was able to work as a teacher and waitress during my four years of study in the Netherlands. It was hard work, but I knew I wanted to go to Los Angeles and that it would costs a lot. Knowing what you’re working towards always makes it easier though. Once I’ve finished my studies, I’d like to stay in America and work in the film industry.”
