The (side) effects of ADHD medication

Henrieke Wielink (Graphic Design) made her final work about the effects of ADHD medication: “During my research I learned a number of facts about these medications and I based my exhibition on that information. To date, the mechanism of ADHD medication is unknown and neither are there any known studies on the long-term effects. This is surprising considering the exponential increase each year in ADHD medication. In 2011, about 1.1 million boxes were sold in the Netherlands!

“Ritalin, Concerta, Strattera. Who hasn’t heard of these ADHD medications?!”

I also found a report on fatalities resulting from the use of various ADHD medications. I translated this into a wall covered by small boxes. Five of these are lit up and have a central place. They represent five children who have died from the medication. I wanted this project to show the unknown sides of ADHD medication so that unknowing parents can learn about the kind of medication their children are getting.”
